Players

4 players divided into 2 teams (partners sit across).

Deck

Standard 52-card deck; spades are always the trump suit.

Card Ranking

Ace (highest) → 2 (lowest).

Objective

Each player bids the number of tricks they think they can win; the team must meet or exceed their combined bid.

Dealing

Each player receives 13 cards

Bidding

Players take turns bidding, starting with the dealer’s left. Minimum bid is 1; players can also bid “Nil” (aim to win no tricks).

Gameplay

The player to the dealer’s left leads the first trick (cannot lead with spades).
Players must follow suit if they can.
If unable to follow suit, a spade or any other card may be played.
Once a spade is played, “spades are broken” and can be led at any time.

Winning Tricks:

The highest spade wins the trick.
If no spade is played, the highest card of the leading suit wins.
